Growing Your Own Edible Garden

Growing your own produce can be very rewarding and easy to do.  Whether you have acres of land or a small balcony, you can grow your own edibles whatever the size of your garden.

Here are some edible ideas to help you get started…

Salad Leaves

Salad Leaves are easy to grow, simply cut a few leaves from each plant and they will continue to produce.  Lettuce, spinach, rocket, chicory are most common to grow of your own.

Herbs

The most popular herbs to grow are: basil, coriander, chives, mint, parsley, rosemary, thyme.  Keep them in containers near the house for easy picking.

Tomatoes

Tomatoes is a great choice to plant with the kids and then they can help pick the tomatoes when ripe.  It may need support with bamboo canes as the vines can become huge.  Growing tomatoes is so simple and with just a couple of plants, you will be rewarded with plenty of tomatoes in the summer.

Beans

Bean plants make pretty vertical sprays in the garden.  This is an ideal edible plant to train up on decorative lattice and they will require support to climb.

Peppers

Pepper plants are ideal for those who are short on space in their garden as peppers thrive in containers/planters. These plants require water regularly.

Berries

The Berry variety can be pricey in supermarkets so a great choice to grow your own.  Who doesn’t love strawberry, raspberry and blackberry picking and even better in your own garden!
