Half Term Garden Fun

May 30, 2018

We are half way through May Half Term and if you are getting stuck with ideas on how to keep the kids busy then we are here to help…

Get the whole family together by entertaining the children with a range of activities to enjoy in the garden.

Go on a garden treasure hunt

Give the children a list to look for;
Colours – look for colours that match their clothing
Shapes – find what resembles different shapes
Alphabet – find something beginning with each letter of the alphabet
Vocabulary – find something hard, soft, wet, dry, big, small, tall, short, prickly, smooth..

You could split children and adults into teams and see which team can find everything first.

Become a leaf collector

Get the children to look for different colour and shaped leaves int he garden and then collect them all and create a collage with them.

Go on a scent trail

Ask the children to play a game by wearing a blindfold while they smell different scents from the garden and see if they can guess what it is.

Decorate a plant pot

This is a great way of using up those empty terracotta pots lying around and children love painting and getting messy.

Grow your own fruit / vegetables

Help your children to plant their own food and watch them grow.  You will need to follow the guidance on the seed packets.  Popular and easy to grow fruit and vegetables are; runner beans, strawberries, radish, lettuce, carrot, courgette, potato.
