Description

Half Round Machined Fence Posts are widely recognised as a reliable and versatile choice for fencing installations across agricultural, domestic, and commercial settings. Their design combines structural strength with practical usability, making them a popular option where durability and longevity are key requirements.

Half round posts are produced by machining timber into a rounded profile on one face, while leaving the reverse side flat. This creates a post that benefits from the strength of a full round section while offering a flat surface for fixing rails, boards, or fencing components. The machined finish ensures consistency across each post, providing a clean and professional appearance when installed.

The rounded face also helps to shed water more effectively than square-cut timber, reducing moisture retention and contributing to the overall lifespan of the post. This makes half round posts particularly suitable for outdoor environments where exposure to weather is unavoidable.

Kiln Dried Timber – Stability and Performance

Each post is kiln dried prior to treatment, a process that removes excess moisture from the timber under controlled conditions. This step is essential in improving the structural stability of the wood.

By reducing internal moisture content, kiln drying helps to minimise common issues such as warping, twisting, or splitting once the post is installed. It also allows the timber to absorb preservative treatments more effectively, ensuring deeper penetration and longer-lasting protection.

The result is a post that remains stable over time, maintaining its shape and strength even in changing weather conditions.

UC4 Pressure Treatment Explained

All of our Half Round Machined Posts are pressure treated to Use Class UC4, which represents the highest level of preservative treatment commonly used for fencing timber.

Use Class UC4 is specifically designed for timber that will be in direct contact with the ground or exposed to conditions where it is frequently wet. In these environments, untreated wood is highly susceptible to decay caused by fungi, bacteria, and insect attack.

The pressure treatment process involves placing the timber into a sealed chamber where preservative chemicals are forced deep into the wood fibres under high pressure. This ensures that the protective treatment penetrates throughout the timber rather than just coating the surface.

UC4-treated timber is engineered to withstand prolonged exposure to moisture, making it ideal for fence posts that are partially buried in soil. This level of protection is essential for maintaining structural integrity over time and is a key factor in achieving the expected 15-year service life.

Designed for Ground Contact Applications

Fence posts are one of the most critical components of any fencing system, as they provide the structural support for the entire installation. Because posts are typically installed directly into the ground, they are constantly exposed to moisture, temperature changes, and biological activity.

The UC4 treatment ensures that these Half Round Machined Posts are fully equipped to handle these conditions. Whether used in agricultural fields, garden boundaries, or commercial sites, they provide a dependable foundation that resists decay and maintains strength over the long term.

Available Sizes and Applications

Our Half Round Machined Posts are available in the following sizes:

1.65m x 85mm

1.65m x 100mm

1.8m x 100mm

This range of sizes allows you to select the most suitable option depending on your specific project requirements.

The smaller diameter posts are often used for lighter-duty applications such as garden fencing, decorative boundaries, or temporary enclosures. Larger diameter options provide increased strength and are better suited to agricultural fencing, livestock enclosures, or areas where additional structural support is required.

The choice of length also determines the depth at which the post can be installed, ensuring adequate stability once set into the ground.

Ease of Installation

The half round profile makes these posts particularly easy to work with during installation. The flat rear face provides a convenient surface for fixing rails, panels, or wire fencing, while the rounded front offers a clean, finished appearance.

Their consistent machined shape allows for accurate alignment during installation, helping to achieve a straight and professional-looking fence line. The smooth finish also reduces the risk of splinters, making handling safer during construction.

Versatility Across Projects

Half Round Machined Posts are suitable for a wide range of applications, including:

  • Agricultural fencing and livestock enclosures
  • Garden and boundary fencing
  • Post and rail systems
  • Rural and equestrian fencing

Sourced locally and cut from managed rotational woodland our sweet chestnut post and rail is the most environmentally friendly product on the market. Chestnut post and rail fencing is suitable for a number of applications such as boundaries, property entrances, parkland and paddocks. Sweet chestnut timber is often viewed as an alternative to oak and although it is a lighter specie, it is stable, hard wearing and straight grained which allows the wood to be easily split. Sweet chestnut has a very low sapwood content, a very high heartwood content and has high tannin levels (tannin is a natural preservative) and consequently requires no timber preservative treatment.
