All our timber gate posts are kiln dried and pressure treated to offer long term protection against fungal and insect attack, including termites, for in-ground contact, and general exterior applications. All of our in-ground posts are treated to class UC4 to provide a 15 year service life. The green colour from the preservative weathers down to a natural brown and eventually to a natural silver grey. The weathering process does not indicate any loss of preservative.
4-way-weathered gate posts are stock items & ready for immediate despatch however we can offer 2-way-weathered and round top as a special order. Contact the office on 01233 820240 to discuss with one of our helpful staff.

Our Cleft Chestnut 5 Bar Gate is a traditional, rustic field gate designed to complement natural cleft chestnut fencing. Built using strong mortice and tenon joint construction across all rails, the gate combines time-served craftsmanship with the natural durability of sweet chestnut timber. Its hand-cleft intermediate and cross braces give it the authentic character expected from cleft fencing, while the bolted diamond bracing at each crossing adds strength, rigidity and long-term practicality.
This gate is ideal for entrances, paddocks, parkland, rural boundaries and properties where a natural countryside appearance is important. Unlike treated softwood, sweet chestnut is naturally durable due to its high tannin content, meaning it does not require preservative treatment.
